Cinemax To Create Animated Gor Series Using Actual Second Life Locations!

Cinemax sets sail for adventure with a new original series set on the planet Gor.

Cinemax, creators of original series such as "Banshee" and "Hunted" and such original adult series as "Life on Top" and "Femme Fatales," has announced that it is starting production on a new animated adult series based on John Norman's Gor novels, set in the virtual world of Second Life Gor.

Insiders at Cinemax say the cable network has been eyeing the successes of HBO's series "Game of Thrones" and most especially Starzs' very successful "Spartacus" with a desire to create their own breakthrough series. This has led to the creation of several bland, low-budget action adventure series, such as "Banshee" and "Hunted."

"We realized that we had been going at it all wrong when we looked at Games of Thrones and Spartacus," said the insider. "Spartacus has its sexy slavegirls and Game of Thrones has its sexy whores, who are pretty much slaves. Clearly they've been getting in on the taste for sexy female submission just like Fifty Shades of Grey did in the book world. We've been going in the stupid direction there with our original adult series "Femme Fatales" which was basically hot dominatrixes having sex. It's earned us a devoted following, but a very SMALL, I mean, a really TINY devoted following relative to Game of Thrones, Spartacus, and especially Fifty Shades of Grey."

"So we looked around and discovered that John Norman's Gor was once a very hot property in the old maledom/femsub area, but it got optioned by idiots back in the 80s and nothing useful got done with it," said the source. "And we realized that Spartacus with tons of hottie slavegirls was just the thing, but you know, most of our series are done on very limited budget. We're talking cheap here. And while filming naked women in chains having sex is cheap enough, all the sword fighting and giant bird flying and such were going to cost, and cost big, by our standards. We're not HBO or Starz!"

The solution, said inside sources, was provided by the research that was done on the Gor novels. The Cinemax production team discovered that there was a huge fandom for the Gor novels in the virtual community called Second Life, and they had created over 300 different virtual sites, called sims, that were based on the Gor novels.

"When we saw this, we realized that most of the production work we would need had already been done, in an animated venue, and that's when we said, "Why not make it an adult animated series?" explained the insider, who might or might not be the executive producer for the series. "We already knew we could get the rights to the Captive of Gor title and concept from John Norman for peanuts, and we knew we could pay off the owners of these sims for peanuts and get all kinds of extras for the scenes besides, and all we'd really need is some voice actors and some post-production work to make up for stuff like the doll hands." (Second Life avatar hands are noted for being immobile.) "Piece of cake! I mean, one of the iconic cartoon characters of all time is a pig that wears a shirt and no pants and has no genitals! People are very forgiving about animation -- and OUR animations are VERY lifelike and DO have genitals, and they'll be using them. They'll be in bondage, and they'll be in sexual bondage. We can't miss with this one!"

"People will be VERY surprised at how good this will be," said the sou ... it's the executive producer, OK? The fucking executive producer! He won't let me use his NAME but who the HELL else would know all this stuff? "There'll be bowfighting, very big right now, swordfighting, and naked slavegirls submitting to mighty masters right and left. And don't you worry ... the slavegirls in this series will NOT be damsels in distress, waiting for some heroic man to free them. ALL the Goreans want to enslave them, there are no heroes! The slave girls will have to learn to deal with their slave girl problems on their own, whether that involves escaping to another land and becoming panther girls, becoming free women through some act of bravery or whatever, or dealing with their own submissive desires ... something you never see in damsel in distress plotlines. Captive of Gor will surprise you!"

Casting for the voice talent is already underway, scripts are being written, and the post-production team has been assembled. The series should be on the air in Spring 2014.

Mesh Breasts Are Nice!

Mmmm, mesh breasts as seen on the Gorean Dressing Room blog.

Back in the old days, female avatars in Second Life had just two choices with regard to breasts: the ones that came with the avatar, and prim breasts. Both have advantages and disadvantages. Avatar breasts have bounce. But they can only grow so big before they get ... polygonal. What do we mean, polygonal?

"See my giant polygons? Do they make you hot, baby?"

We mean POLYGONS! That's standard avatar breasts scaled up to the max and seen up close, about as bad as it gets, but you have to admit ... that's bad. As the camera draws back the polygonality disappears, but still ... that's pretty bad. Especially compared to those nice, round, smooth mesh breasts seen above.

Prim breasts don't have this problem, they are smooth and round, but they are like any article of prim clothing, which means they can be very hard to fit properly. And it's annoying when clothes won't quite fit or get out of alignment when the avatar moves, but it's really unfortunate with body parts.

Prim nipples on giant polygon breasts ... who can resist, eh?

Just check out the unusually well-fitting and color-matched nipples above. Nice as they are, one of the nipples is slightly higher than the other, they are kind of the wrong size and shape for those huge honkin headlights they sit on. When you move, such nipples can get discombobulated, and actually seem to be floating a short distance away from the breast, or sunken into it. So ... not optimal.

Now check out the prim breasts at the very top of the page. They have that 3D nipple bump and nice, smooth curves. They look like breasts should look. The only problem is, some of the inhabitants of Second Life have taken a good idea and supersized it waaaay too much, as this article points out.

As a wise woman once told me on this very blog, "Ain't nothing like the real thing" and Rachel Roxx convincingly makes that point here. I say "convincingly" because I'm pretty sure Rachel's breasts have implants. But she bought wisely, enough to give her an impressive rack but not to make her look weird or distorted. No polygons on her! Image source: Whipped Ass.com.

I finished the article on the beauty and completeness of Second Life Gor that I promised in my post on Gor Made Flesh. It's full of very large pics of Gorean landscapes and also of course Gorean slavegirls doing what those Gorean slavesgirls do so well. But mainly, it's about what a beautifully designed place many Gorean sims are to roleplay in.

Check out and leave a comment if you care to.

Lady Gaga Outfit Outshone By Second Life Designer Outfit

First published on 7/28/2012

Lady Gaga looking bondage-y in the "bondage dress" that shocked those fashionistas who are shocked by anything they think somebody with money or clout wants them to be shocked by! Image source: just about every fashion/celeb site on the Web, here's a very nice one on The Stir that includes a nice butt shot of Lady Gaga. She really hung it out there. Note the lack of butt plug, however. Thought you was EDGY, Gaga! (The headline is pathetic, "Too Racy for 50 Shades of Gray!" the editor has clearly never read the book or even a good description of it, cause 50 Shades is WAAAAY racier than that dress.)

A couple of weeks ago the flying monkeys spent a few days filling up my mailbox with reports of the "bondage dress" Lady Gaga wore to lunch one day. Now I gotta give Lady Gaga credit, it's a pretty bondage-y looking dress, MUCH more bondage-y than a lot of stuff that get's called "bondage wear" by the fashion industry. (Basically, if it has a black strap on it, it can be called bondage wear, by fashion/celeb site standards, if that's not an oxymoron.) Lady Gaga would not look at all out of place in your average kink club in that getup, in fact, she'd look pretty durned IN place.

Now here's a nice outfit from Second Life designer Graves. It's way racier, way bondagier (I THINK that's a word, but I don't know if your average Scrabble dictionary would go for it) than Gaga's outfit, and of course, it has optional butt plug and nipple and vagina stims, and REALLY, who can resist options like that? Image source: Graves, I'll post the SLURL below. My flying monkeys, however, originally discovered the outfit on this website. And the images on the linked website give you a much better idea what those nipple stims and the butt plug look like. Tres sex droid.

Graves features a lot of similarly-inclined kinky outfits on her site. Thing is, this outfit does not look like it's beyond the capabilities of Real Life designers ... a transparent body stocking with some black fabric on it to give it the circuitry look. And when you compare the Graves outfit with the comparatively sloppy-looking, prosaic "bondage dress" it's not hard to tell who's the better designer. Graves is. Difference is, the Graves outfit goes for 690 lindens, with is about three bucks in US currency. I'm betting Gaga's less snazzy outfit cost thousands of dollars. Food for thought!

Graves has some Yahoo videos of her outfits, you can find them here.

Here's the SLURL for Graves' store in Second Life:

Roleplay At The Gor Visions Tavern

First published on 7/22/2012

A slavegirl awaits the Master's pleasure at the Gor Visions Tavern. Image source: me.

Well it seems that some enterprising folks in Second Life have started up a Gorean paga tavern that is accessble to all, not just Goreans. This is a brilliant idea, I think, given the popularity of 50 Shades of Gray I suspect there may be a huge appetite for dominance/submission roleplay. A place that can sort of ease people into it, getting the idea of Gorean roleplay without have to actually be IN Gor proper makes all kinds of sense.

I decided to go to the Gor Visions Tavern and conduct an interview with the owner, bubit Treves, and introduce readers to how the tavern works. Treves suggested I conduct the interview in roleplay, which was agreeable to me, so I grabbed a slave and grilled her good. But I got more than I bargained for, and so I posted the roleplay on Bondagerotica so you can check it out for yourself and see what happened, and get an idea of how Gorean roleplay proceeds.

Basically, the Gor Visions Tavern welcomes all to its doors, not just experienced Gorean roleplayers. You can play a slavegirl, a customer, a dancer, whatever floats your boat. The staff will help you learn the rules of the roleplay and guide you so you don't get caught up in roleplay that does not work for you. The slavegirls actually visit non-Gorean Second Life sims and entice visitors to the tavern. It's an interesting concept. I'd like to see them take a wider approach to attracting visitors, but I will watch their experiment with great interest, perhaps making the tavern a regular stopping point for Bondo Quixote on his travels.

If you want to visit the Gor Vision Tavern, here's their SLURL:

The Fast and Easy Guide to Playing Second Life Gor

First published on 6/11/2012

Beauty, adventure, excitement, combat and sexy fun await you in Second Life Gor. Get on it!

OK, I've been working for weeks on my definitive, or at least somehow useful guide to getting started in Second Life Gor. The goal has been from the beginning to let people get started fast and easy.

To that end, I've broken the article into six different sections, each exploring a different aspect of playing in Second Life Gor.

The first article, Getting Started in Second Life Gor, tells you how to get into Second Life and where to get all the freebie goodies and how to find Gorean roleplay sims. You'll be having fun getting new freebie stuff and playing with it in minutes. Read that article and go, read the others afterward as you move into new areas. The second article, How To Commit Sexual Roleplay in Second Life Gor, is second because you know you want to. Here's how it works. Then ins and outs. Ahem. Shows you how conventions have evolved to let people who have various approaches to and levels of interest in sexual roleplay enjoy the game together. You don't HAVE to do it ... but you CAN do it, if you want to.

The third article, Raiding in Second Life Gor,explains how to learn the skills you'll need to be a successful Gorean warrior, outlaw, panther girl or battle slave. The fourth article, OOC and IC in Second Life Gor, and Lifestyle Gor, is a VERY useful guide to the principles of roleplay in Second Life Gor. Here is where the cowpies you don't want to step in are. I would recommend reading it before engaging in Second Life roleplay, but the choice is yours. The fifth article, 50 Shades of Second Life Gor, was written because I figure with ten million readers of 50 Shades of Gray, we might just have a few people coming over from the books for some BDSMish roleplay, and this article is intended as a way to explain to them the benefits of Gorean roleplay for fans of 50 Shades of Gray. The sixth article, Gor Evolved and By The Book Gor, describes a basic split in Second Life Gor. There are Gor Evolved sims, and By the Book sims. Here's how it happened and how the two different kinds of lands operate, to help you choose your flavor of Gor.

All articles kinkily illustrated, of course. Now get our there and have yourselves some fun!

Fifty Shades of Second Life Gor

First published on 5/30/2012

Yeff, Chriffam ... I meme, yeff, maffah!" Image source: me.
Well ten million people have bought Fifty Shades of Gray ... hmmm. That means that if even one percent of those ten million people decide they want to do some kinky sexual roleplay, that's ... a hundred thousand new sexual roleplayers, which is TWICE the current population of Second Life Gor roleplayers by even the ROSIEST estimates. That's why I wrote 50 Shades of Second Life Gor, a blatant attempt to recruit 50 Shades of Gray readers into roleplaying in Second Life Gor. If they're coming, might as well let 'em know what they're in for ... which is to say, tons of kinky, sexy fun! If you're into that sort of thing.

Second Life Gor Evolved By The Book

First published on 5/15/2012

"Well, I WAS going to roleplay baking some poison-laced cookies for a black caste assassin today, but he IS much better at pointing and clicking his mouse than I am!" Image source: Fucking Dungeon.com.

The original split in Second Life Gor happened about seven years ago, maybe six years. Second Life Gor was in its early stages first characterized by the growth of sims featuring Gorean roleplay, mostly involving cities. Almost as soon as that happened, outlaws, pirates and panther groups arose. Their natural opponents, other than each other, were the cities of Second Life Gor. Because the outlaws, panthers and pirates were more prone to fight, by the nature of their groups, than the cities, which had all kinds of peaceful roles (scribes, merchants, bakers, candlemakers, administrators, etc.) the outlaw groups tended to win fights most of the time. Eventually, they began to win almost all the time.

The problem was exacebated by the tendency of male players to enjoy combat more and for female players to enjoy roleplay more, and the tendency of the pirates, panthers and outlaws to ally to attack the cities. And there were also Xenas, players who disliked Gor and who played Gor, became outlaws, pirates or panthers and expressed their feelings by thoroughly kicking the asses of the big, bad Gorean Masters in the cities, in game. The end result, to hear some tell it, was that cities got rolled over on an almost hourly basis by wave after endless wave of hordes of fighting outlaws, panthers and pirates, making roleplay impossible (ninjas were apparently the only holdout here, though I did hear a rumor that such a raid did occur once).

Eventually, the cities enacted rules on their sims that female outlaws with bows (the most effective weapon in SL Gor you will recall) could not visit their cities, as such women were not seen in the Gor novels. Also, panther bands could not attack cities in large numbers because in the books panther bands and outlaw bands were small, weak groups that could never have matched the warriors who guarded a city in numbers or military prowess. Since in SL Gor it was the outlaws and friends that had the numbers and the fighting prowess, so the Gorean city sims just used their banning powers to kick out anyone who did not play on their terms.

Since the Gorean city roleplayers claimed that they were expelling the outlaws on the grounds that they were not "by the book" (I have a lot of reservations with this claim) such city sims because known as "by the book" Gor. The bow-toting female outlaws and pirates and panther girls called themselves Gor Evolved, I guess in the sense that they felt they had evolved into something beyond by the book Gor. (I personally think that it's quite reasonable to assume the existence of female warriors and large bands of outlaws and pirates that might take over a city given the way Gor's culture and level of civilization is described in the Gor novels, so I see no need to add the term "Evolved" for accuracy, though it works just fine as a descriptive term so I use it because it's what everyone uses.)

And you might figure that since I play in Gor Evolved (GE Gor) I might be completely on the side of Gor Evolved, but I'm not. Mainly because I see the roleplayers' point: if you are intent on building up any kind of story type roleplay, being captured and forced to do hostage/prisoner/captive/slave roleplay all the time is a huge pain in the ass (possibly literally, if rape/torture roleplay is involved, as it sometimes is). Bakers and scribes and such probably did not constantly get captured even in as warlike a place as Gor is. And cities probably were able to fend off outlaws gangs most of the time, else they would not be cities for long. If you are trying to build up a complex character with a complex storyline, you can see how it would be annoying to have your roleplay constantly interrupted by someone who feels he had a right to take over your storyline because he (or she) has practiced playing Second Life Gor as an arcade game more than you have.

Some Gor Evolved advocates claim that the real reason that cities outlaws femlaws (female outlaws armed with bows) is that the by the book Gorean warriors were just butthurt over getting their asses kicked repeatedly in battle, which, let's face it, is kind of supported by that particular prohibition about female outlaws using the most powerful weapon in Second Life Gor roleplay. Others call by the book Gor "tea party Gor," which implies that by the book Gor is basically a dress-up tea party using the best dolls ever. There may be elements of truth to both implications, especially "tea party Gor" since cities tend to attract female players to a much greater degree than male players so much so that some female players have played male warriors, not because they found it appealing, but so that the other female players would have male warriors to interact with. Guys just don't want to play in that tea party.

I'm not an advocate of either of these views, Gor Evolved works for me because raiding is the MOST FUN EVAH! And I find that the downtime between raids is great for the other parts of Gorean roleplay, which in my case is doing funny stuff. Sometimes, funny, raunchy stuff, but mostly I enjoy parodying the hell out of the heroic Gorean warrior. My character is greedy, self-serving, loves to claim credit for what others achieve and vain, though he does fight bravely enough, not out of valor, but just because he thinks fighting is fun. Often all it requires is bragging artfully after a raid ... or during one. Easy enough to do between raids, and fun, fun, fun!

I wish the split between by the book cities and Gor Evolved outlaws were not so binary, and it's not really, because here's the dirty little secret of Second Life Gor: practically everyone has alts, that is, they have more than one avatar (Second Life allows players with free accounts to have up to eight avatars with different avatar names). So it's very possible to have a male warrior alt, a panther girl alt and a paga slut alt, if you want to do that. You can play in by the book Gor, Gor Evolved AND anything else you want to, if you have the time.

Wait a minute. Male warrior alt AND panther girl? Sure, I SAID some female players do that. I've even heard they are supposed to be tremendously good at playing male warriors, so much so that slavegirls players fall in love with the character. Which leads us to our next topic: OOC and IC.

Get Outta Winter: New Second Life Machinima By Pat Powers

First published on 2/16/2012

See Vallerie's butt. See Vallerie's butt jiggle. Jiggle, butt, jiggle!

I've created a new Second Life machinima, "Get Outta Winter and Into Second Life."

"Get Outta Winter" is basically hot, almost naked blonde Uncanny Vallerie traveling through various Second Life sims in various ways -- via jetskis, ATVS, dancing cows, swimming, flying and one very silly run. Other than Vallerie's butt, the sims are the real stars of the movie, I wanted to give viewers an idea of how much just plain old fun there is to be had in Second Life, apart from all the sexy sex that people seem to think of when SL is mentioned.

The machinima is designed to be fast and fun, driven by Bob Seger's "Get Outta Denver," basically a visual interpretation of the term "WHEEEEEE!!" It's also a showcase of how inexpensive Second Life is (playing Second Life itself costs nothing) -- all of the vehicles Vallerie rides except the tricycle are freebies, either available at freebie sites or left out just to use on various sims. The most expensive thing you'll see in this machinima is Virtual Vallerie's hair, which cost 300 Lindens (in-game money) which amounts to about a $1.33US. This is actually logical -- hair is complex and difficult to build, requires a certain amount of scripting knowledge and has a great deal to do with how good an avvie looks. The avvie itself was free, as is the "skin" that covers the avvie.

Here are the Second Life URLs (slurls) for the various sims in the machinima and some relevant info about them:

Snowy run scene
Primus Weapons
http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Primus%20Weapons/182/74/20 This is a Gorean sim, set in the Northern Forests and full of panther girls and outlaws. Running around as a slave is hazardous in such sims if you do not want to RP being a slave, if you don't know what you're doing, or the secret of slaves in SL Gor (which is that a lot of Goreans would just as soon not cap a slave). There are a couple of other sims (Midgaard and others) linked to it at present.

Wyrldmaker (Suboceana)
http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Wyrldmaker/119/83/21
This is a group of 30 sims linked together with a common theme of underwater exploration and also some nifty above-water stuff as well. Has another of freebie vehicles parked at the docks that you can ride ... jetskis, helicopters, sailboats, etc. Definitely worth a visit.

Tricycle Scene, ATV Scene
Kings Bishop
http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Kings%20Bishop/38/227/24 Kings Bishop is a public sandbox where anyone can rez their possessions and objects and build their own objects, and learn to build. It's in the middle of a mainland continent and there are all sort of different places nearby, much like a real life city, except with a LOT more variation, as there are not zoning codes and there's no problem with leaving stuff in midair. Also, just to the right of the landing zone is a building filled with freebies, most designed to be useful to builders but also some very useful freebies in general.

Fish and submarine swims
Vernian Sea
http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Vernian%20Sea/96/199/73 The Vernian Sea is the underwater portion of the Babbage steampunk sims. Some very cool, visually arresting imagery above ground and below ground. A great place if you like steampunk of the dark and grim sort. Rising from water scene

Flying out of water scene
Caledon Speirling
http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Caledon%20Speirling/89/40/18 Part of the Caledon steampunk sims, once again, some very arresting imagery, I used this bit just because it was a nice way to transition from the underwater scenes to the flying scenes.

Diving board scene
Marvil
http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Marvil/162/87/28
A sim near Kings Bishop that had a nice diving board to use as a prop to set up the underwater scenes.

dancing cow scene
Omanix, somewhere on Route 13
http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Omanix/222/52/50
Another sim near Kings' Bishop that had a roadway that the Dancing Cow could use. There were a lot of other cool vehicles on the sim, but most moved far too slow for the pace of my machinima. Damn, wish I could have used the bus to Nowhere!

Flying scene, water slide scene, tubing scene
Suboceana
http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Wyrldmaker/119/83/21
More above-water fun in Suboceana.

Run through steampunk land
Caledon Sky City
http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Caledon%20Steam%20SkyCity/110/54/76
Ok, this one was a bit of a cheat. Caledon is actually a group of steampunk sims. Sky City is a very detail-rich, built-up steampunk sim, and not all of it rezzed immediately, most notably, the floor Vallerie should have been running on. But I went ahead and ran her in midair, because I wanted to give a sense of how complex and multilayered these sims can be. So as Vallerie is running, that's the ground way beneath her ... she's actually a story above it ... and there are floating blimps and so forth floating in the sky above her as well.

Volcano Run, Silly run
Corsica 3D
http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/CORSICA3D/123/89/23
These locations just happened to be near a Star Trek museum I was looking for, and I thought it would be fun to have Vallerie jump into the caldera of a live volcano and run through a section with some generally weird creatures with her Silly Run.

Ice Skating
Babbage Canals
http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Babbage%20Canals/29/83/105
Back to the Babbage sims for some ice skating to close out the running about.

Leap to Doom
Caledon Lionsgate
http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Caledon%20Speirling/89/40/18
This is a spectacular steampunk sim, though all I was able to use was a nice leap. You can fall any distance at all in Second Life with no problem, though some of the animations your characters use to get back on their feet can be funny.

Blowing A Kiss
King's Bishop
Taken in one of their builder's sandboxes, where I used the free FORTRESS I got, I think at the Gorean Recruiting Center. (To be fair, it's a SMALL fortress, just one story high, and c'mon, stained glass windows? In a fortress?)

Meeting an octopus somewhere in Suboceana. One of many great scenes I left out of the video.

I had to leave out an AMAZING amount of good stuff to make this video work. I wanted to include some shots of Vallerie flying around in spaceships from Star Wars and Star Trek, but I had major lag when I tried that. There were some amazing sims I wanted to use, but they were full of active roleplayers, and I make it a rule not to interfere with others when making my machinima. I've also made it a rule not to involve others in my productions, as the process of making a machinima is and can be a time-draining pain in the ass, with many retakes.

Along those lines, in some of the sims Vallerie visited, notably the steampunk sims, she was severely out of costume. Some sim mods and owners don't mind that, others will ban you from their sims for being out of costume (Vallerie has in fact been banned, um, once or twice, mostly for excess nakedness). So keep that in mind. Generally most sims that have roleplay also have freebie costumes for visitors. (I know that Babbage does, and it's true of many Gorean sims.) Some sims, like the ones around King's Bishop, have no clothing requirements other than the ones associated with their rating (can't go naked in a sim rated General or Moderate, though in Moderate anything goes so long as the naughty bits are covered. Adult, sky's the limit.)

You can find out where to find the latest mods (for non-gamers, "modifications of game features, such as avatars," discuss issues in game modding and socialize with others who enjoy adapting games to their own purposes. Virtual Worlds Found To Be Most Efficient Internet Time Waster

First published on 2/15/2010

The creation and use of virtual worlds has been discovered to be the most efficient time-waster on the Internet by a whopping 37 percent margin, a new study shows.

"The numbers were virtually astounding," said Marco Sofapommedeterre, president and CEO of Virtual Studies, Inc., the Internet survey firm that conducted the survey, which is famous for keeping its headquarters in Mrs. Sofapommedeterre's basements even after it had grown to become a $10,000 Virtuabucks a month business. ($10,000 Viruabucks equals $3.95 US.)

"Although porn downloading remains by far the biggest time-waster in the Internet by virtue of the fact that a whopping 103 percent of Internet users do it regularly, virtual worlds is MUCH more efficient in terms of the results/time ratio," Sofapommedeterre said. "You spend MUCH more time sitting staring at your computer while the world downloads with virtual worlds. Plus, virtual worlds are MUCH more demanding of computer resources than porn or any other application. It's hard to explain the thrill of staring at a frozen computer screen while your cpu is 98% occupied, and knowing you aren't even downloading a virus -- but it's a real thrill nonetheless!"

The creation of virtual worlds software of various sorts is an even more efficient Internet time waster, Sofapommedeterre said, as 99 percent of all programming activity related to virtual worlds is bound to lead to the creation of virtual worlds that are fated to never have any actual inhabitants.

The proprietary nature of Virtual Studies' survey software means that they can't reveal anything about their methodology or even the number of users polls, but as Senior Media Analyst Susan Whiffenpoof of Bondagerotica says, "Gee, ain't that something?"

Frontlines' Digitial Culture Could Use A Yeast Infection

First published on 2/8/2010

"Hi, I'm Bob Executive. Which way is business?"

Frontline, PBS television's desperate attempt to seem hip and cutting-edge, continues its long history of epic fail with its "Digital Nation" episode, which is a tremendous exercise in viewing-with-alarm at all the terrible things digital media is doing to American culture, most notably, rendering shows like "Frontline" obsolete.

They covered "Second Life" in the episode, and I was all agog, of course. The segment dealt with the Philip Rosenthal's claim (billed as "the creator of Second Life") that he wanted to use Second Life as a way of changing the way people interact with one another -- to make them more socially connected rather than less socially connected. And what did they focus on ... Second Life's attempts to lure the business market by hosting virtual meetings. (See image above.)

The episode COMPLETELY ignored the really interesting part of the way Second Life changes human interaction, and the one Second Life is most famous for ... the addition of sexual elements to online life, making the virtual life experience all the real. The self-censorship that was involved there ("It's NOT the sex!") made the episode seem lame, dowdy and hopelessly out of touch, which of course, it was. (I KNEW they were not gonna touch on SL Gor, but they ignored the ENTIRETY of Second Life sex.

Granted, nobody else in the mainstream media has done a hell of a lot to cover this powerful aspect of our culture, so Frontline IS ahead of the rest, but what a pale, pale compliment that is, considering how really retarded and out of it mainstream media typically is. And if any of them DID cover it, you know that most of them would focus on the most out-there sexual elements they could find, to the exclusion of all else. That's the way it goes with the mainstream media with sex, it either ignores sex or goes ape-shit over some aspect of sex. Thinking about it rationally? Not gonna happen.

"Come on in to the Second Life orgy pool, boys and girls! I'm a slave, I'll clean ALL those naughty bits -- the hard way!"

Tathassa: A Gorgeous Gorean Sim

First published on 2/2/2010

A lovely slavegirl in Gor rests on a ledge in a beautiful Gorean sim called Tathassa.

One of the things about working with virtual worlds is, being virtual and all, virtual real estate and materials are much cheaper, being made up and all. What this means practically is that sim designers do not have to build to human scale or worry about physics. This has some implications.

That's a HUGE statue she's kneeling next to. It totally dwarfs her! Click on the pic to see a larger version.

Gorean builds are noted throughout Second Life for their beauty, I think, because they impose limits on the builders. The architecture has to be something that people might build and live in with the technology available to human beings at their techno level of development (think Roman Empire-> early Middle Ages for everything except medicine) and cultural background. But there's nothing restraining them as to the particulars of their designs, or the topology of their world (so long as it's Earthly as in the books).

I guess the statue is not all that big. Nor are ... any of the others ...

Second Life: It's Not Just the Gor Part 2

Not to belabor a point, but … hell, I’m belaboring the point, but it’s fun and easy to do so here. Star Trek fantasies are also very well realized on Second Life, and you can definitely fly yourself a Federation star craft (that's the bridge of the Enterprise from the Original Series as realized on Second Life) and get served by an Orion slave girl, if you are so inclined. The possibilities are endless, as they say.

Second Life ... Its Not Just The Gor!

In my general delight in playing at the game of Gor on Second Life, I have neglected to mention the obvious, which is that plenty of other fantasies than Gorean ones are being enjoyed in Second Life. There are well-developed fandoms on Second Life for Star Wars roleplay, Star Trek roleplay and many others. (There’s even a fandom for Star Wars/Gorean crossover roleplay. Heh. Slave Leia strikes again.)

What this means is, if you want to enjoy a fantasy of a bound, gagged Slave Leia dancing naked for a barbaric warrior, or being sexually used by a barbaric warrior, you can probably get that worked out pretty easily. As the illustrations here demonstrate. It was a TRIVIAL thing for me to get a female model in a Princess Leia avvie to dance and fur for my barbaric warrior. It would be a trivial thing for most who know Gor or Star Wars well, because the coin of the realm in the land of roleplay is knowing your role.

What does this mean for you? No more dreaming “what if” about your favorite movie characters. YOU CAN MAKE YOUR DREAMS COME TRUE ON SECOND LIFE!!!! In a pretend-y sort of way, granted, but hell, it’s so much more fun than watching a movie and just wishing it were done right, it almost defies description.

But of course, me being me, I’m gonna try.

Second Life Gor: Famous for Beauty

First published on 1/20/2010

Gorean sims are widely disliked by many Second Life residents, being too much fun and all, but the interesting thing is ... they DO have the reputation of having some of the most beautiful builds in Second Life. This image is from the city of Brundisium, a sim with a lot of gay Gorean residents (it's not a gay-themed Gorean sim like White Water, but it's got a lot of gay guys living there. And boy, those gay guys can design, yes they can. The small pick seen here doesn't do the build justice. Click on the pic like the caption says and see what it's really like. This is just one part of Brundisium, there are over 300 Gorean themed sims in Second Life, they actually have built a virtual world here.

Sadly, since I like to fight, I live in Gor Evolved, where the builds are mostly docks leading to a kill zone in front of a butt-ugly fortress. But I do get to fight and have adventures a lot, which is what I am in Gor for.

John Norman: Better Than Tolkein

First published on 8/15/2009
So then when Master John bought Slave Kat his Free Companion Marianna was all, “Eeeewwww, not ANOTHER slave,” even though the First Girl on his chain Tami was COMPLETELY cool with it!” Yes, there IS gossip on Gor. There are female players, therefore, there WILL be gossip!

I don’t think highly of John Norman as a prose stylist or a philosopher, but I do think he was a genius. His genius lay in his ability to create a world as complex and internally consistent as J. R. R. Tolkein’s Middle Earth, only much more interesting and better, if you’re an adult, most especially if you are female and adult. Because whereas Tolkien kept his focus entirely on warfare (hence spawning World of Warcraft, an obvious Tolkein ripoff) Norman took in the slaveholding aspects of ancient civilizations and used them as the basis for adding dominance and submission (and bondage, of course) sexual fantasy to his world.

And while many guys love video games based strictly on warfare, women like games based on richer, more complex stuff, and Gor was in that respect MUCH richer and more complex than Middle Earth.

And whereas Tolkien’s Middle Earth was almost entirely rooted in European mythology, Norman’s much more extensive body of work (28 Gor novels so far, all very thick tomes) is based on a variety of cultures -- most notably ancient Greece and Rome, but also the Viking, the Indians, the Mongols, the Arabs and others, all convincingly portrayed with great detail as to their lifestyles and habits, yet all with a distinctive difference that does make them an actual alien culture.

As a result, Norman created a world that is so compelling that its Second Life incarnation (known as SL Gor) draws in players who are not even into sexual dominance and submission play. That’s because the combination of a very well thought out alternate world full of adventure, mystery and romance with an intensely felt sexuality that permeates its culture is quite simply explosive in its effect on participants.

SL Gor is orders of magnitude more compelling than any other entertainment I have ever encountered.

Let me try to make what I’m talking about more clear with a concrete example. In a lot of online games like World of Warcraft you can be a member of a group that raids other groups/cities/camps/whatever, and grabs booty -- gold, weapons, armor, food, medicine and whatnot, although there’s not really a lot of whatnot. You go out, you fight, you have a great victory (or a tragic defeat) you head home and tell lies about what you did to anybody who will listen and gear up the for the next raid.

You can really get into the World of Warcraft game because the various cultures and races -- orcs, elves, humans, etc., have well thought out, convincing cultures. It doesn’t feel like it’s just some flimsy excuse for battle, though frankly the game’s emphasis on battle may just obscure that fact a bit.

Now let’s look at how a raid proceeds on SL Gor. You get together with your buddies (of whatever gender, a lot of panthers and such on SL Gor), you go out and fight and have a glorious victory, capture some booty, go home and tell lies about what you did, and have sex with your booty, often while lying to your booty as well.

Only on SL Gor: a sign advertising a blood auction in the City of Fina. Blood auctions are auctions in which the right to sexually use a virginal (white silk) slave for the first time ever is auctioned off. Now That’s a civic event!

Because of course, in SL Gor, with its high proportion of female players, there are a ton of slave girls in most cities, panther camps, outlaw camps and pirate ports, many of them happy for the chance to be whisked away for some captive slave girl roleplay. Most of them just LUUUURRVE to be captured, stripped of all their clothing, tied up,and sexually used because they’re adult women and they like it.

Yes, I am saying that in SL Gor the booty is actual booty … slave girl booty, to be exact, though panthers get captured and used a lot, too.

And even outside the context of raids, the lives of slave girls in SL Gor consist of being used, either by their Master or all Masters, and by used we mean exactly that … the Master controls all aspects of the sex, where and when it will be done, how it will be done, how long it will last, and the slave girl must serve as ordered. (Of course, a player behind a slave girl avatar has the option of ending any scene in SL Gor just by moving her avatar to another location (called TPing out, short for teleporting out). But they rarely do so, because they are playing slave girls for a reason -- they like being used and controlled.

Don’t get me wrong. Although SL Gor is full of sexuality and has many opportunities for combat, that’s hardly all that goes on. Most of the castes represented in the books are representd on SL Gor, with plenty of scribes, bakers, merchants, builders, administrators, metalworkers and whatnot. Free women often play these roles, but there are plenty of male players as well. Though as you might imagine, most men play warriors of some kind and most women play slave girls. Since it’s possible to have more than on avatar however, many players play two or three roles at once, getting to experience a variety of Gorean roleplay instead of constantly being stuck in warrior/slave girl mode. (I don’t see how they do it, but they clearly do.)

The richness and detail of Gorean culture, with its castes, its homestones, its laws of conduct, and its varying groups, means it doesn’t feel like a cheesy backdrop for fighting and sexing -- and it’s not. There are a lot of players who never fight in SL Gor, and many others who never have sex, finding their interests occupied by other parts of the game. The game is rich, deep and involving, in ways others are not. And although players bitch regularly about not getting enough roleplay, or not getting enough sex, or getting too much of either, and many other things besides, they keep coming back.

World of Warcraft and its ilk have plenty of opportunities for combat and some opportunities for roleplay, but NOTHING like the richness and variety of SL Gor. It’s as close to actually living in another world as you can get right now, a DAMN sight closer than anything else I know of.

Damn. I’m only BEGINNING to paint the picture here. But I hope it’s taking shape.

You can visit Second Life and find out for yourself here.
